Middle East Peacebuilding
'A listener calling from a refugee camp told us that radio is the only way they follow the news of the war,' says Jerry Wilson, Ministry Specialist (Middle East). 'He admires our teaching against revenge and killing. How Jesus teaches us to love one another, and that he feels their region needs such teaching.'
Iraq
Feba (the sister organisation of FEBC) is now on the air five hours a day, seven days a week in Iraq. The broadcast team focuses on issues that concern
most people, such as peace and security. They also encourage listeners
by broadcasting messages of love and joy. Ever since the station was launched, listeners have called in to
congratulate the new broadcasting team. Many from the Christian
community have also visited to offer congratulations on the new FM
station. The aim is to build an audience with the majority population
and develop a relationship with them. While it is acceptable to talk
about Jesus on the new station, Feba cannot openly evangelize. But when
listeners call in, the follow-up team can share the gospel with anyone
who expresses an interest in the Christian faith.
Praise God we now have a radio presence in this war-torn country! We
pray the people who tune in are comforted by these daily programs hosted
by Iraqi Christians… and that many will come to know Christ as their
Lord and Savior!
Other Restricted Countries
In many other restricted countries the good news is reaching people via radio broadcasts. In situtaions where it would be unsafe to be found with Christian literature or meet publically, people are learning about Jesus Christ and growing in their faith as they hear broadcasts speaking in their language and addressing their needs.
Arabic Online Radio
This
is not traditional radio but a kind of online cafe where they can go to
listen to music and short topics on relationships, education, fashion. A growing number of listeners are following Jesus after
hearing the programmes that include culturally-sensitive drama, poetry,
humour, proverbs and Bible stories.
