Ex Khmer Rouge soldier asks, ‘May I believe in God?’

‘I’m a person that God has known and chosen. In the past I thought that I was a person that nobody wanted to associate with. I was an ex-Khmer Rouge soldier (1979). I was young when I served them. They didn’t care about me but I had no choice then.
‘After the KR integrated with the government, I continued to live in the Khmer Rouge region. Life for me was hopeless. I was working on the farm and one day I turned on the radio. Then I heard someone speaking about God’s love, that only Jesus can save and we cannot do good things or anything else to save our life. It was FEBC.
‘I didn’t know where God was but thought that it was time for me and my family to know about Him. When I went home I turned on the radio again and called my family to listen also. I listened for one month.
‘When I listened I knew that God was good; that He died for me because I was a sinner. He promised to save me from my sins so I decided to believe in Him and to look for others who also believed.
‘One day, I travelled to X find my aunt who works as a missionary. I had not been there since I was young. I looked for her like I’d lost something from my pocket but no one knew her. Then God led me to her house through a motor taxi driver. He said ‘She is God’s servant.’
‘I came to meet her and I believe that it was God’s will for me. He ordered me to come to her. I didn’t know anything about her except that she was a refugee who lived in America for a long time and has come back to serve Him as a missionary to her people. It was the first time I had seen her after twenty years or more. Seeing her lifestyle now I asked her, ‘May I believe in God?’ My aunt said, ‘It is good if you bend your knees to believe in God so you will have eternal life.’ I decided to believe in God in 2001 until now.
‘Nowadays, I still listen to the radio in the morning and evening. Listening to God’s voice through the programs helps me to have a strong commitment. I listen everyday.’
