FEB International has been working over the last two years to improve and extend our disaster response capability.
The First Response Radio Unit was developed in partnership with Feba Radio, with the capability to set up and run a radio station in the crucial 72 hours following major natural disasters.
Following disasters, aid agencies have important information to communicate to people in the area – where to go for safety, medical help and food aid.
When infrastructure is destroyed, radio communicates these messages, making a vital difference in the lives of people following natural disasters.
Following the Asian Boxing Day tsunami, a listener told FEBC:
‘Just hearing music on the air again was a form of counselling for us.’
The impact these programs have on our listeners is immense.
'I am a fan of 'This Life Has an Answer' program ever since I met with this tsunami disaster in my life. My husband lost his life and now I am left alive, alone. There’s no-one to ask for advice and to give counsel to me. I don’t have relatives and I accidentally found this program on your station. I have listened all the time since and it has started to bring some peace back into my life again. I am 42 years old and had no children or parents so I am alone. I take care of my loneliness and grief by listening to the program. I would like to ask for two booklets please. Lastly may Jesus and you all continue this program forever.'
